Boston College forward Charlie Davies has completed a trial with Ajax Amsterdam, who have decided not to offer the American a contract.

As Dutch news outlets were busy reporting an Ajax swoop for NAC Breda strike ace Leonardo as complete, the Yank's visit was cut a day short.

Despite the rejection, the technical staff admitted to being impressed with the 20-year old.

"He's a very good player, but not quite good enough," Young Ajax coach Aron Winter told YA.

"He's a good guy, he has quality and he is very positive, but we were looking for the first team."

Davies, who failed to find the net in two Young Ajax friendlies, could now be in line for other auditions on the continent.

The 2006 All-American has recently been linked with the likes of Celtic, Hammarby and Olympique Marseille, as well as with MLS.
