After a summer of uncertainty, Benfica attacker Freddy Adu has joined Lisbon based club Belenenses on a one-year loan.

"Yes, one year on loan to Belenenses," Benfica's press officer Ricardo Maia confirmed to YA.

Adu's second season on-loan follows a forgettable loan spell last season to AS Monaco in France's Ligue One.

The young American will join a club that is led by Portuguese head coach João Carlos Pereira, who guided the club who barely survived last season's Liga campaign and were fortunate to not be relegated.

"The loan has been made but I don't have [all] the details," YA was told by an Belenenses official late Monday.

The club already has Brazilian midfielder Fellipe Bastos on-loan from Benfica so the American will be welcomed to a club by a fellow teammate.

The "Blues from Restelo" have already opened the Liga season, with a draw against Leixoes in the season opener. They followed that up with a 2-0 victory against Naval 1º de Maio and most recently the club fell 3-1 at the hands of Braga.

I hope he gets some playing time. They have been wasting his talent and not allowing him to develop.

Please Freddy, please - earn some PT and play your way on the WC roster. You can do it.
