Brad Guzan and Aston Villa moved one step closer to a final date at Wembley with a 1-0 away win at Ewood Park in the first of the two game series in the Carling Cup semifinal.

Villa controlled most of the game, with Guzan only being called into action once to palm Brett Emerton's effort wide, the only shot on target for the home team. Guzan sprung the attack by beating away a Blackburn offensive, but James Milner did the hard part.

In a lightning counter attack, Milner and Stewart Downing raced down the field with Milner dishing Downing the ball just outside of the area. Downing took his time before slotting Milner back the ball across the face of goal who tapped it into Paul Robinson's back post.

Benni McCarthy and Gabriel Agbonlahor picked up a card a piece for either team. Aston Villa will have home field advantage over the Rovers in the return leg of the series on Wednesday, but next up is a visit from West Ham in Premier League action over the weekend.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
