BRIAN SCIARETTA - Wednesday, January 20, 2010
US U20 head coach Thomas Rongen announced today the 20 man roster that will compete in the 2010 Copa Chivas tournament this month in Mexico.

In the tournament, Rongen's squad will play five games. The most prominent of which will be against Brazil's U20 team. The US will also play the youth team from Costa Rican club, Sasprissa, and youth teams from Mexican clubs Tigres, Atlas, and Pachuca.

The US roster is composed entirely of players from MLS, NCAA, or US youth teams. Four players are professionals with Fuad Ibrahim serving as the most experienced player. The Ethiopian-born forward/midfielder has been a professional since he was drafted in the second round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas.

Also included in this roster are Jack MacInerney and Amobi Okugo. Both players were part of the 2010 Generation Adidas class and both were drafted last week in the top ten of the first round by the Philadelphia Union in the MLS Draft.

Carlos Martinez will also join the US team having trained the past week with Mexican club Tigres. Next month he will be training with Argentine powers Boca Juniors.

This tournament marks the first serious competition for the U20 team in the 2011 cycle. Last month, Rongen began the cycle with a 36 player camp in California. With the European players from that camp now back with their clubs, Rongen will hope to compete with this domestic squad that consists of six players who did not participate in last month's camp.

Also of note is that former US international Eric Wynalda will be assistant coach to Thomas Rongen in this tournament. It will mark the first international coaching appearance by the 1990 and 1994 World Cup veteran.

The 2010 Copa Chivas will run from January 22-30.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
