Young American Michael Hoyos will look to make it back on the field after failing to make an appearance in a midweek loss against rivals Gimnasia de La Plata when Estudiantes takes on San Lorenzo on Sunday at home in Dr. Jose Luis Meiszner Stadium.
Despite the hiccup in the clasico, Estudiantes, led by Argentine national team veteran Juan Sebastian Veron, are one of the favorites to take the Argentine Clausura this year as they boast a talented roster mixed with youth and experience.
The match should have plenty of passion in it as San Lorenzo is looking to revive their season after disappointingly crashing out of Copa Libertadores qualifying, while Estudiantes look to right the ship after a poor showing against their rivals.
Hoyos, who is a native of California born to Argentine parents, played extremely well at the youth level for Estudiantes and his recent form has earned him a spot on the first team.
His spectacular goal against Boca Juniors in a preseason match a few weeks ago lifted the stock of the young midfielder even more, and led to him making an appearance as a substitute in the first game of the Clausura.
