Former University of Central Florida goalkeeper Brian Pope has taken his expertise to the Veikkausliiga where he has signed a contract with Vaasan Palloseura.

Pope had trained with the Finnish club at the end of last season and impressed team officials enough to receive a one year offer which he says came shortly after the new year.

"I signed with VPS at the beginning of January," Pope confirmed to YA.

The Durham, New Hampshire native had originally played at East Carolina University before transferring to play for the Golden Knights where he starred for one season.

Pope is already familiar with playing in Finland after spending last season with Vasa IFK in the Kakkonen, the country's third level of professional soccer.

The club is fully expecting the American netminder to compete for the starting position currently occupied by South Korean Kwon Jung-Hyuk.

VPS begin their 2010 Veikkausliiga campaign on April 18th when they host JJK.
