WOODY BAUM - Tuesday, April 13, 2010
Jose Francisco Torres will look to keep Pachuca's playoff hopes alive while Herculez Gomez will try to start for the second consecutive game.
Atlas – Puebla
Herculez Gomez will get another shot to increase his goal tally this Wednesday when Puebla visit Atlas in Guadalajara.
Unfortunately, Puebla will be taking on an Atlas squad that recently defeated Pachuca in Hidalgo and is still in the hunt for a liguilla berth.
Atlas are only three points behind Toluca in their group and still have a shot at the postseason. Puebla, meanwhile have essentially been eliminated from liguilla contention.
Gomez was able to achieve his goal of being a starter last week and will look to repeat while also finding the back of the net as he has done so often this season.
Guillermo Martín, of Atlas, will be suspended for the encounter. Fabricio Fuentes, Dario Bottinelli, Gerardo Espinoza, and Gonzalo Vargas will be out injured for Atlas. Puebla should have its entire squad available.
Indios – Chivas
Indios, coming off a big win against Puebla last week, will attempt to continue their run this Wednesday against group leaders Chivas of Guadalajara.
While relegation is certain, Indios have shown heart in their last several games, and Marco Vidal and the Ciudad Juarez squad have demonstrated great character in the way they have continued to battle.
They will face a Chivas squad without their best player, Javier "El Chicharito" Hernandez who was recently sold to Manchester United but is currently training with the national team.
Look for Marco Vidal to start again, as he has all season, in what should be a scrappy encounter.
Javier Malagueño will be out injured for Indios. Chivas will have only a fraction of their roster available as Luis Michel, Jonny Magallón, Alberto Medina and Aldolfo Bautista, in addition to El Chicharito will be training for the national team.
To make matters worse for the visiting team, Sergio Avila and Mario de Luna will be out injured.
The depleted roster should give Indios a distinct advantage in the encounter.
Cruz Azul – Pachuca
In what will be a preview of the Concacaf Champions League Final, Pachuca will visit Cruz Azul in Mexico City this Wednesday.
The game is a must-win for both teams, who are currently technically alive in their liguilla hunt, but for whom the chances get slimmer each week.
Jose Francisco Torres will look to start and distribute the ball from midfield as his impact and importance to this team has grown all season.
Cruz Azul will be without star Gerardo Torrado and Pachuca will be without Paul Aguilar who are both training with the Mexican National Team.
The result of this game will have significant implications for both teams' postseason hopes, although there will be an opportunity for revenge as they play each other again in a week.
Pachuca will also be without Argentine playmaker Damien Manso who is injured.
Edgar Castillo will be out injured when Tigres hosts the Gallos Blancos of Queretaro.
Sammy Ochoa will look to make the field when Estudiantes visits San Luis on Wednesday.
