MEGHAN BRENNAN - Monday, May 3, 2010
Hunter Freeman, Clarence Goodson and IK Start could do little to defend against an Aalesunds attack in a loss at Color Line Stadion on Monday.

Both Freeman and Goodson started on the back line at right and center back respectively, and played the full 90 minutes in front of a fierce Aalesunds support.

Kjetil Rekdal's team earned their 16th goal of the season and the first of the game in the 38th minute of play.

A cross from Fredrik Carlsen initiated a scramble and series of headers until the ball finally dropped at the feet of right winger Pablo Herrera on the top of the six yard box.

Herrera ripped a left footed shot past Start's keeper Kenneth Høie who was able to get a touch on the ball unable stop it.

Eleven minutes later, Carlsen again sent in a cross, this time from 35 yards out to Alexander Mathisen, who one-timed the ball inside the far post and past Høie. Neither Freeman or Høie had time to react to the Mathisen shot.

The loss is only the second of the season for Start head coach Knut Torum's squad who have made an impressive start through nine weeks of play.

After earning two goals in the victory, Aalesunds boasts 17 on the season and reclaims their spot at the top of the Eliteserien rankings.

Start will host Lillestrom at Sør Arena Thursday then travel north Sunday to battle a second place Tromsø.
