Daniel Antunez needed extra time to beat lower division KPV while Greg Eckhradt saw action for VPS who edged out fellow Veikkausliiga club MyPA in Finnish Cup action.
FC Inter 1 - 0 KPV Kokkola
It took 120 minutes but Daniel Antunez and FC Inter advanced to the seventh round of the Finnish Cup after a narrow win over second-division KPV Kokkola on Thursday.
Antunez went 94 minutes in the midfield after Mika Ojala was forced to leave the field after a harsh tackle by Ville Luokkala in the first half.
After an uneventful first half, KPV nearly took the lead in the 47th minute with their first opportunity of the game but Jussi Roiko failed to hit the target.
Ari Nyman almost broke the deadlock in the 92nd minute, but his shot hit the post just before the referee blew the whistle for 30 minutes of extra time.
With KPV struggling, it didn't take long for FC Inter to find the winning goal through Kennedy Nwangangan in the 98th minute.
FC Inter face IFK Mariehamn in the seventh round on June 9th.
VPS 1 - 0 MyPa
VPS are in the final eight of the Finnish Cup after edging out fellow Veikkausliiga rivals MyPa in a close game at Sandviken on Thursday.
American Greg Eckhardt made his second appearance for VPS, coming on in the 62nd minute for Sami Salmi.
The first chance for VPS fell on 17 minutes after a poor clearance by goalkeeper Mika Johansson fell to Jussi-Pekka Savolainen in the center of the midfield but Johansson recovered in time to avoid an embarrassing start.
Just minutes before halftime, VPS were awarded a penalty after MyPa's Tuomas Aho received a red card for handling the ball in the box. Antonio Inutile converted from 12 yards to give VPS the lead.
VPS took full advantage of their extra man and held out during the second half to preserve the win. They now face HJK on June 9th.
Goalkeeper Brian Pope is sidelined with a shoulder injury and did not take part in the match.
