Sammy Ochoa scored his first goal of the season in an Estudiantes win over Edgar Castillo's San Luis while Jose Francisco Torres started for Pachuca in his return from injury.

Pachuca 2 – 2 Monterrey

Pachuca managed to tie Monterrey at home in the debut of new head coach Ruben Ayala.

Pachuca was motivated after honoring former professional player and ex-national team player Mauricio Pena, who is suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease, before the game.

The Tuzos took an early lead off a header from Dario Cvitanich off a corner kick from Daniel Manso in the seventh minute.

After the early lead, the game was back and forth with both teams controlling possession for periods of time.

Chilean Humberto Suazo tied the game in the 68th minute after receiving a pass from the left side of the area, and on a rebound sending a blast past Miguel Calero.

Ten minutes later, Aldo de Nigris gave Monterrey the lead in the 78th minute after heading in a cross when he was left unmarked in the area.

The game seemed lost as Pachuca continued to search for the tie, but then in stoppage time, Daniel Arreola connected on a corner kick from Edy Brambila in the 90th minute.

Torres started and played 80 minutes in his first appearance since sustaining an injury.

Herculez Gomez entered in the 66th minute, creating several opportunities.

Compatriot Marco Vidal did not play.

Estudiantes 3 – 2 San Luis

Estudiantes won their first game of the season thanks in part to a goal from American Sammy Ochoa, who started and played 90 minutes for the first time this season.

San Luis defender Edgar Castillo watched this one from the bench.

Estudiantes took an early lead in the 23rd minute when Ochoa intercepted a poor clearance from the San Luis goalkeeper and scored on an open goal.

San Luis equalized in the 41st minute of a shot from Michael Orroyo after taking on two defenders.

In the 73rd minute, Diego Jimenez gave San Luis the lead after connecting on a free kick from Mauro Cejas.

The lead didn't last long as Anibal Metallan scored in the 78th minute after the Estudiantes goalkeeper botched a save in the area, leaving the ball at Metallan's feet with a wide open goal.

However, in the 83rd minute, Estudiantes regained the lead from a free kick that Ramon Morales converted.

Estudiantes held onto the lead in order achieve their first points of the season.
