Stabaek youth team player Erik Benjaminsen has officially become a member of the club's senior team after signing a professional contract on Friday.

The 17 year old is now eligible to play in Eliteserien matches with Stabaek after already having appeared for the club in a Norwegian Cup match earlier this season.

Benjaminsen has been a featured player on Stabaek II, the club's youth team which plays in the 2. Division.

Now the young attacking midfielder joins fellow dual citizen and close friend Mikkel Diskerud in hopes of reigniting Stabaek's chances at another berth in European competition.

The club says that the deal will keep the San Francisco-born player in Baerum through the 2013 season.

"Erik has signed a three and a year half professional contract with Stabaek," confirmed Stabaek spokesperson Jorgen Roll to YA. "We are thrilled for Erik who came up through our youth system. He is now eligible to play in any Eliteserien match."

The US Under-20 player did make the gameday roster for Stabaek in their 0-4 win at Honefoss on Sunday but did not see any playing time.

Benjaminsen and Stabaek return home this weekend to face Lillestrom.
