Clay Goodson scored to help Start bowl over Stromsgodset while Graham Dugoni's defensive effort lifted Mjondalen to a much needed victory over Ranheim.

Start 4 - 2 Stromsgodset

Clay Goodson's goal helped hosts Start romp to victory over Stromsgodset at Sor Arena in Kristiansand on Sunday.

Goodson started at center back and went the full 90 minutes in addition to his strike. Compatriot Hunter Freeman was also a 90 minute man at right back.

The match started inauspiciously for the hosts when Solomon Owello's attempted clearance was headed right to Stromsgodset's Ola Williams Kamara who sent a header past goalkeeper Kenneth Hoie in just the fourth minute.

Start responded five minutes later thanks old man Ole Martin Årst who swooped in at the far post to head home Espen Hoff's bouncing cross.

Goodson put Start ahead eight minutes into the second half as the lanky Virginian rose up above the Stromsgodset defense and deftly flicked a header into goal off of Fredrik Strømstad's corner kick.

Four minutes later Årst scored his second of the match when a horrid defensive errory by Stromsgodset allowed the grizzled veteran a clear path to goal which he easily finished with a shot inside the left post.

The ageless striker completed the hat trick in the 70th minute by gathering in Rolf Daniel Vikstøl's pass and firing a left footed shot into the back of the net.

A late Stromsgodset goal in the 92nd minute by Kamara did little to dampen home fans' spirits as Start climbed up two spots to seventh in the Eliteserien standings with the victory.

They will next take on Steve Clark and Kenneth Di Vita Jensen's Honefoss on Monday.

Stabaek 0 - 3 Odd

Mikkel Diskerud and Stabaek suffered a humiliating loss at the hands of Odd on Sunday evening at Telenor Arena in Baerum.

Diskerud started at right midfielder and went the distance in the disappointing defeat.

The match took on an ominous tone for the hosts from the starting whistle as Odd netted in just the first minute of play.

Simen Brenne scooped up a loose ball just outside the box and fired in a shot that beat Stabaek goalkeeper Jon Knudsen to his right.

Brenne added another one in the 23rd minute taking in Jone Samuelsen's pass and sliding past a Stabaek defender before slotting another ball past Knudsen.

Stabaek's defensive troubles came home to roost yet again in the second half when Knudsen collided with a defender on a cross just in front of the six yard line squirting the ball loose.

It was then easy pickings for Torgeir Børven who tapped it in to cap things off for the visitors.

Diskerud and company will try to right the ship next weekend at Kongsvinger. The loss drops Stabaek down to 11th in the Eliteserien.

Mjondalen 1 - 0 Ranheim

Graham Dugoni was named Man of the Match for his excellent defensive effort as Mjondalen shut out Ranheim on Sunday evening at Nedre Eiker Stadion.

Dugoni started at center back and went the full 90 minutes.

It was a huge victory for the hosts who are in a battle to stave off relegation in the 1. Division.

The lone goal of the match arrived late in the second half with Lars Granaas striking for the hosts in the 81st minute.

Lasse Olsen found Granas inside the box and Granas thundered home a volley for the gamewinner.

Dugoni and the rest of the Mjondalen defense locked down any Ranheim attack the rest of the way and emerged with the three points.

The former Duke standout was clinical in his effort all match long by clearing away dangerous crosses and outmuscling Ranheim attackers for possession.

Mjondalen are now just one point away from safety.

Next up for Mjondalen is a trickey test at Strommen on Sunday.

Notes

Steve Clark watched from the bench as the backup goalkeeper alongside teammate and striker Kenneth Di Vita Jensen as Honefoss dropped a critical match to Molde 1-0.

Colin Burns sat as the backup goalkeeper during Sarpsborg's surprising 0-3 loss to Strommen.

Joseph Bendik was also the reserve netminder on Sunday as 1. Division leader Sogndal rolled Nybergsund 0-2.
