BRIAN SCIARETTA - Thursday, September 30, 2010
US national teach coach Bob Bradley announced a 20-man US roster that will compete in the upcoming October friendlies.

Regulars such as Steve Cherudolo, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore, and captain Carlos Bocanegra will lead the United States.

The roster includes notable inclusions in Jermaine Jones, Brek Shea, and Erich Lichaj who will be looking to earn their first caps with the national team.

Shea and Lichaj have been two of the more anticipated young players to come up through the ranks. Lichaj is on the 25 man roster at Aston Villa but has yet to make a league appearance for the club. Shea, who was on last year's U20 national team, is enjoying a breakout year for FC Dallas.

Jones, 28, has had his US debut delayed for over a year due to injuries since he switched to representing the US from Germany.

The roster will also see the return of Heath Pearce, Eddie Johnson, and Michael Parkhurst who were regulars during the last cycle but did not make the final World Cup team.

The US will be without its best player in Landon Donovan who will remain with the Galaxy who are reaching the conclusion of their MLS season.

The US will face Poland in Chicago on October 9th and then face Colombia three days later in Philadelphia on the 12th.

bradly took the team as far as he could and its now time to get a quality coach in there. this is really getting frustrating watching these bozo's destroy US Soccer!

a roster selection like this might mean we'll see a 4-5-1, maybe even bits of a 3-4-3, but without LD it will only tell us so much. personally i would have liked to have a seen a few more newbies on defense, but it should be a good round of matches nonthelss

Whos to say the 20 yr old Brek Shea won't pan out to be better than Buddle or Gomez? Nows the time to find out in a meaningless friendly. Buddle is busy with the Galaxy trying to win the Supporters Shield.

How is EJ the new Bornstein when EJ has been in the pool much longer? Besides, what other forwards do we have playing at a high level?

Looks like Eddie Johnson is the new Bornstein. Instead of trying to find someone more deserving. Bradley continues to believe "sooner or later a blind squirrel will find a nut"...but in Johnson's case I don't think he will find a goal.

Midfielder Shea is a good choice for a team so heavy loaded in midfielders.... ....does Bradley "really" believe he is better then what we have. Why not bring in a Gomez or Buddle? Players that play in positions we need help in......I just don't understand your thinking, Mr. Bradley.

This roster is a typical Bob Bradley roster. I don't agree with his re-hiring, but give him his dues. I like the fact that he does bring in new talent into the mix. What I don't like is the selection of players that Bradley won't be using for qualifiers. I'm looking forward to the debut of Lichaj and Jones. Other than that I'm hoping we don't give up a goal within the first 10 minutes of the game...

@Dave How is Bob Bradley a joke? He won the 2007 Gold Cup, 2nd place at the Confederations Cup, WON group at the 2010 World Cup (first time ever for US), and along the way set up fixture dates with Brazil (3x), Spain (beat them), Italy, Arg, Eng, Netherlands. Most accomplished US coach ever. NOT the same for 16 years.

The older guys you speak of, Cherundolo/Boca I presume, are playing high levels of football in Europe with both of their squads in top 3 positions. How could you ignore their ability? Also, what other defenders do we have to replace them? and in 4 years? They will also help the USSF qualify for the 2014 WC, Gold Cup, Confederations Cup.

Bob bradley is a joke. He gives caps to people not even playing. Some of these guys are so old they won't even be around in four years. Good job USFA president you made us the same for 16 years now.

264 minutes played and no goals.

Jonboy: Donovan is not on this Roster, keep up bro
Yadaki: Who are these "young talented" players you speak of who Bradley overlooked? NAME THEM! (its very easy to talk in generalities without actually naming names)
