RECAP: RANGERS 1 - 1 INVERNESS
EXTRA TIME
Saturday, October 30, 2010
For the second time this season, Rangers' Maurice Edu scored a goal in a match that ended in a draw as visiting Inverness walked out of Ibrox Stadium with a point on Saturday afternoon.

Edu started at midfielder for the Light Blues but was substituted out at halftime by head coach Walter Smith.

The Glasgow club was shooting for a 100% record through its first ten matches, a feat that would have given the squad the club's best start in over 100 years, however it was not meant to be.

The US international's goal arrived in the early stages of the match when Steven Davis played in a delicate looping ball to Edu just inside the left part of the box in the 11th minute.

Edu initially tried to trap the ball with his right foot but whiffed on the effort, so instead the former Toronto FC man struck a left-footed volley toward goal that whizzed past Inverness goalkeeper Ryan Esson.

It was Edu's fifth Scottish Premier League goal ever for Rangers.

However the former Maryland standout's first half was marred by a rough tackle he absorbed from Inverness' Richie Foran who recklessly fouled Edu.

It took several minutes before he returned to the field forcing Smith to ultimately replace Edu at halftime for Steven Naismith.

With a midweek Champions League clash ahead at Valencia, Smith was likely making a precautionary move in order to ensure that Edu will have a chance to play at Estadio Mestalla on Tuesday.

Following the halftime whistle, Rangers were unable to summon up their usual second half strength and were caught flat-footed when Inverness striker Eric Odhiambo equalized nine minutes from time after gathering in a ball from Foran and shotting past Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Even with the draw, Rangers remain in first place atop the SPL standings with 28 points with crosstown rivals Celtic lurking behind just one point back in second.
