Over the weekend, Finnish Veikkausliiga club IFK Mariehamn announced on their website that they have come to terms with a two year extension for American defender Mason Trafford.

In the final week of the recent summer transfer window, IFK Mariehamn added Trafford to boost their central defense as the club found itself in a relegation battle where they successfully maintained their place in the top division.

At the time, Trafford signed a deal for the remainder of the season with an option for two seasons.

The current deal is not an exercise of the option but rather a new deal.

"It's a two year deal signed last week," Trafford's agent Justin Stone told YA on Sunday. "It's after he came on in August for six months. They had an option for two years. This deal is essentially the same terms. It's a new two year deal."

"It's an exciting time for the club," Stone continued. "They are really going to be pushing for a spot in Europe with the offseason moves and acquisitions. Mason has really come in and impressed them. It's really good."

Trafford appeared in seven matches for Mariehamn this fall scoring one goal.
