MICHAEL ADUBATO - Monday, December 20, 2010
Despite the driving snow in Belgium over the weekend, Anderlecht still managed to make the trip to Club Brugge and come away with all the points Sunday afternoon.
Ninety-minute man Sacha Kljestan started in central midfield in place of Czech team mate Jan Polak, who was unable to participate due to illness. The ex-Chivas man had a very good game and could have also bagged himself a goal but the post came to the aid of Stijn Stijnen between the Brugge sticks.
It was Les Mauves boy wonder Romelu Lukaku who scored first for the cause as he struck in the 58th minute, claiming his ninth league goal of the season. Moroccan international Mbark Boussoufa put the game to bed two minutes before full time as he scored his first since coming back from injury where he missed the entire month of November. Overall, it was his seventh league goal.
The game had to be stopped after just seven minutes and the Anderlecht players returned to the dressing room because of the home fans throwing snowballs. Boussoufa and Jonathan Legear were unable to take corner kicks due to the barrage.
With the win and Racing Genk's 1 - 1 tie against lowly Lierse, the Anderlecht fans will enjoy a Christmas morning with their team back in first place. Next up however for the Belgian champions will be a Boxing Day visit from Lierse as they try for back-to-back upsets.
