Maurice Edu scored as a second half substitute for Rangers who thrashed last place Hamilton on Saturday afternoon at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow.

Edu came on in the 62nd minute for Steven Davis and scored in just his second match back from a knee injury that kept him out of action two months.

Vladimir Weiss got the scoring going for Rangers in the 25th minute of play uncorking a bullet from outside the area that found the netting just inside the left post.

Rangers doubled the margin just three minutes later courtesy of Stevie Whittaker who converted a penalty kick after Weiss had been fouled in the area.

Weiss again proved to the difference on the third Rangers goal, this time coming on a free kick which he curled in.

Striker Kenny Miller deked as if he would make a play on the shot but at the last moment backed off allowing Weiss' shot to go in uncontested.

The fourth and final goal for the Light Blues came from Edu who scored in the 82nd minute.

A Rangers throw-in deep in the Hamilton half found Edu cut to his left leaving a Hamilton defender flat-footed before rocketing in a volley from 18 yards out with his left foot.

The win keeps Rangers just five points behind Celtic with the Light Blues still having three games in hand.

Up next for Rangers is a Scottish Premier League home date on Tuesday versus Inverness.
