RECAP: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
PREVIEWS
EXTRA TIME
Sunday, January 23, 2011
Jonathan Bornstein was the lone yank to see action in the Mexican Clausura as Tigres continued America's misery with a last minute victory in El Azteca.

America 1 - 2 Tigres

Jonathan Bornstein started and played the first 55 minutes for Tigres who claimed victory over America with a thrilling last minute goal.

It was Bornstein's second start of the season for the Monterrey club who continue to experience success in Mexico City's Estadio Azteca.

Tigres have not lost in the historic stadium since the 2005 Apertura.

Bornstein started in more of a midfielding role for the visitors and had his best run of play late in the first half when he fired a couple shots on goal, one of which that had to be deflected out for a corner kick.

Lucas Lobos opened the score for the Felinos in the 35th minute taking an Alberto Acota pass and blasting a shot inside the near post.

America got the equalizer six minutes after the break when Daniel Gastón Montenegro scored thanks to a superb individual effort from Vicente Matías Vuoso who fed in a ball from the left side to Montenegro for the easy tap in.

For all the world it looked as if there would be a sharing of the spoils but then Tigres scored two minutes into second half stoppage time courtesy of Héctor Raúl Mancilla.

Damian Alvarez made a run into the area and found Mancillo who struck a shot past Memo Ochoa to the disbelief of the home fans.

Bornstein and company will return home next weekend to face Toluca.

Notes

Neither Herculez Gomez nor Jose Francsico Torres saw the field for Pachuca who played to a 1-1 draw with Santos.

Edgar Castillo watched Puebla down Estudiantes 2-0 from the bench. Castillo and Estudiantes' Daniel Antunez and Sammy ochoa all did not feature.

Isaac Acuna did not see the field in Gallos Blancos' dismal 0-3 loss to Morelia.
