Jose Francisco Torres and Herculez Gomez helped Pachuca salvage a point out of their visit to Mexico City with a scoreless draw against Pumas in week 11 of the Mexican Clausura.

Pumas 0 - 0 Pachuca

Pachuca walked out of Estadio Olímpico Universitario with hard-earned point after fighting to a scoreless draw with Pumas on Sunday afternoon.

Torres started and went the distance for the Tuzos while Gomez came on at halftime and played the final 45 minutes.

Both yanks were cautioned in the match as Gomez received a yellow card for a tackle on Efraín Velarde while Torres received the same fate for a foul on Javier Cortés.

After a horrible 0-4 home loss last weekend to Atlante, Pachuca will certainly feel better about earning a point against unbeaten and 'superlider' Pumas.

In the 11th minute it looked as if Pumas would jump out to a lead after Pachuca's Leobardo Lopez was whistled for a handball in the penalty area.

Pumas' Martin Bravo stepped forward to take the penalty but had his effort blocked by the right leg of Pachuca goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota who was taking the place of the suspended Miguel Calero.

Despite the miss, Pumas continued to dominate the first half until two minutes before the break when Juan Francisco Palencia was sent off with a direct red card after his harsh foul on Raul Martinez.

Pachuca head coach Efrain Flores turned to Gomez to try to find a second half goal with the man advantage but still the Tuzos were unable to penetrate the Pumas back line.

Torres received his card in the 76th minute in a collision that had both players laying on the ground afterward and requiring assistance to get back on their feet.

Fortunately for US national team fans, the native of Longview, Texas appeared to be OK and finished out the match.

Pachuca will stay on the road another week in hopes of giving Flores his first win with the club when they visit Morelia on April 2nd.

Notes

Jonathan Bornstein did not appear for Tigres nor did Daniel Antunez and Sammy Ochoa for Estudiantes in their respective teams' 0-0 draw on Friday.

Adrian Ruelas did not feature for Santos who were nipped at home by Morelia 0-1.

Edgar Castillo failed to see the field for Puebla who slid past Necaxa 1-0 on Sunday.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
