It was a nightmare start in the Norwegian Eliteserien for Mikkel Diskerud's Stabaek who were humiliated at home by Lillestrom while Josh Gatt impressed in his debut despite Molde falling to Sarpsborg.

Stabaek 0 - 7 Lillestrom

Sunday's match at Telenor Arena ended up being a house of horrors for Mikkel Diskerud and Stabaek who were hammered at home by Lillestrom.

Diskerud started at right midfielder and went the full 90 minutes in the defeat.

It was an odd match in the sense that Stabaek held possession for long stretches of the match, only to see the visiting Canaries score almost every time they touched the ball.

Diskerud nearly gave Stabaek an early lead in the 14th minute but the US international passed up a shot and sent in a cross that was cleared away by the Lillestrom defense.

Just a minute after that opportunity, Lillestrom struck for their first goal courtesy of Anthony Ujah who finished with a total of four on the evening.

Twelve minutes later it was Ujah again volleying home from eight yards out. Then two minutes before halftime another Lillestrom counterattack led to their third goal, this time Nosa Igiebor doing the deed from 16 meters out.

Before Stabaek could even consider a second half comeback, Igiebor added his second goal this time scoring from 20 meters out after gathering in a pass from Ujah.

Ujah tallied his third in the 64th minute and then capped off his magical day five minutes later with another goal.

Lillestrom added the seventh and final goal on a 79th minute header by Ohi Anthony Omoijuanfo.

After returning from duty with the US national team next week., Diskerud will get back to action with Stabaek in two weeks when they head to Trondheim to take on two-time defending league champions Rosenborg.

Sarpsborg 0 - 3 Molde

Josh Gatt impressed in his Molde debut but it was not enough to take down Sarpsborg on Friday evening.

Gatt came on as a substitute at forward in the 58th minute for Makhtar Thioune.

Martin Wiig opened the scoring for Sarpsborg in the 53rd minute heading in a rebounded shot.

The hosts doubled the margin just three minutes later on Jo Nymo Matland's impressive free kick from 20 meters out.

Sarpsborg then put the match away 15 minutes from time when Glenn Roberts' crossed perfectly to Oyvind Hoas who easily headed home for the third goal.

Still, Gatt created some solid opportunities for Molde including an 85th minute ball toward the back post that Molde defender Vegard Forren was unable to control.

Gatt and Molde will hope to do better when they return to action in two weeks in their home opener versus northerners Tromso.

Stromsgodset 2 - 1 Sogndal

It was a hard-luck Sunday for Joseph Bendik and Sogndal who fell in their Eliteserien opener to Stromsgodset in Drammen.

Bendik made start in goal for the newly-promoted guests at Stromsgodset's Marienlyst Stadion.

Ola Kamara scored first for the hosts in the 31st minute taking a Lars Vilsvik's cross from the left side and hammering a shot past Bendik.

Stromsgodset then increased their lead to two with a 48th minute header from Fredrik Nordkvelle off of an Oyvind Storflor cross.

Sogndal halved the margin with a late penalty after Per Egil Flo's pass was hand-balled by a Stromsgodset defender in the 87th minute.

Ole Jørgen Halvorsen stepped up and converted the penalty but it was the last opportunity created by a rather tame Sogndal attack.

Bendik and company get back to league action on April 3rd when they host Odd Grenland.
