Greg Garza made his second appearance for Estoril in a loss Santa Clara while Tony Taylor was an unused substitute.
Estoril suffered their eighth defeat of the Liga Orangina season at home to Santa Clara on Sunday, dropping them to ninth place.
It had been since January that Os Canarinhos lost in the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, but the visitors from the Azores started quickly and took the lead in the ninth minute through a strike from Moreira.
Santa Clara's lead was doubled in the 55th minute by Monteiro.
Despite the deficit,Taylor, who has so often been Vinícius Eutrópio preferred offensive substitute, was left on the bench. Veteran Brazilian striker Clodoaldo was inserted in the 66th minute instead, but to no avail.
Eutrópio did make use of his other American, though, subbing Greg Garza for Murilo Ceará in the 77th minute.
It was Garza's first Liga Orangina action since his transfer this summer, as his only other appearance came in a cup game in January.
Earlier in the season Estoril harbored serious promotion hopes, but a run of five consecutive winless games has condemned them to a position in the middle of the pack.
They will try to break the streak in their next game on May 1st at Arouca.
