Jose Francisco Torres and Herculez Gomez will be watching the Mexican liguilla from their couches as Pachuca's Clausura playoff hopes went up in flames in a home loss to Atlas.

Pachuca 1 - 2 Atlas

Both Jose Francisco Torres and Herculez Gomez were 90 minute men for Pachuca however it came in a losing effort as the Tuzos waved goodbye to their playoff hopes.

Pachuca coach Efrain Flores welcomed Torres back from suspension and started the native Texan at right midfielder.

Gomez, who had scored three goals in his previous two matches, earned a starting spot up front at forward but failed to extend his scoring streak.

Things started well for the hosts as Yulian Anchico gave the home fans something to cheer about with a goal in the eighth minute.

Anchico gathered in a ball and made several nifty moves through the Atlas defense before slipping a shot just inside the right post.

That goal held up for another hour until Atlas equalized in the 71st albeit with some controversy.

Alfredo Moreno's free kick initially looked as if it hit the crossbar and bounced down on the goal line when it was then immediately cleared by the Tuzos' defense.

Assistant referee Víctor Hugo Romero Lupercio indicated that the ball did cross the line for a goal much to the chagrin of the Pachuca players who vehemently protested the decision.

However the call stood even though replays showed that the ball never did fully cross the line.

Stung by a unjust decision, Pachuca's concentration was rattled which allowed Atlas to continue their pressure and it resulted in Moreno's second goal of the evening.

Just three minutes from time, Michael Ortega headed forward to Moreno who had slipped in past the Tuzos' defense.

Moreno allowed Ortega's pass to bounce once before unleashing a volley that ripped into the back of the net.

The loss forces Gomez and Torres to play out the string in the Clausura and they will next travel to Gallos Blancos on Saturday.

Notes

Adrian Ruelas was an 88th minute substitute for Santos who slipped past Chivas 0-1 in Gudalajara.

Jonathan Bornstein did not see action for Tigres who fell 0-1 at Jaguares.

Neither Sammy Ochoa nor Daniel Antunez made Estudiantes' gameday roster in their 1-3 loss to America.

Edgar Castillo watched from the bench as Puebla defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 at home.
