BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, April 25, 2011
In their first match under new head coach Juan Guzman, Sporting Cristal fell to Universidad Cesar Vallejo to continue their disappointing start to their season in the Peruvian Primera Division.
American Diego Chavarri entered the game in the 62nd minute for Sporting Cristal. The New York City native was effective in generating some opportunities in his second game since returning back from an ankle sprain.
Cesar Vallejo's Mario Leguizamon provided the only goal of the game when he hit a powerful right footed shot from 22 yards past Cristal goalkeeper Erick Delgado and into the top right corner of the goal.
With the loss, Sporting Cristal now sit in 11th place in the 16 team Peruvian Primera Division with 11 points through nine games.
Sporting Cristal return to action next Saturday when they host fourth place Universitario at
Estadio San Martin de Porres.
