EDGAR ZUNIGA - Friday, April 29, 2011
In the final week of the Clausuara 2011 season, with many clubs already out of the playoffs, expect some benchwarmers to see a bit more of action or maybe even start.
Estudiantes Tecos vs. Santos Laguna
With no chance of reaching the playoffs, Estudiantes Tecos closes out the season against Santos Laguna, so there is a slight chance that either Daniel Antunez or Sammy Ochoa might get some minutes for E-Tecos.
Meanwhile, Santos will need a miracle to advance so look for them to go all-out. If Ruelas is to see any playing time it might be as a sub in the second half.
Jaguares vs. Queretaro
Both teams have nothing left to play for but dignity, with Jaguares doomed to finish dead last in the Clausura 2011 table.
Maybe, just maybe, Francisco Lopez might get a chance to finally see some playing time for Jaguares. However, expect Isaac Acuņa to continue to pick up another 45 minutes as a second half sub, or maybe even get the start.
Tigres UANL vs. Atlas
Tigres comes into the last game of the season looking for a strong showing (and a Pumas UNAM) loss to finish with the top record in the Clausura 2011 table. Atlas, on the other hand, is hoping to do enough to earn a spot in the playoffs, so look for them to play with a heightened sense of urgency.
There's a slight chance for a John Bornstein sighting, which would likely come in the second half, depending on the score.
Pachuca vs. Necaxa
This is a battle of bottom dwellers. While Pachuca can only shake their heads at a season to forget, Necaxa literally had the bottom drop out from beneath them, facing relegation and will have to toil next season in the arduous Liga de Ascenso.
Look for Herculez Gomez to get the start but find it difficult to score a goal against a very stingy Necaxa defense.
Jose Francisco Torres will get the start as usual, as he looks to get his first points of the season.
Puebla vs. Morelia
Puebla is another club that has already seen their playoff hopes dashed, but will look to end on a high note against Morelia, who currently hold the third spot in the playoff bracket and would hate to lose it against their Week 17 opponents.
With his club having nothing left to lose, Edgar Castillo probably figures to earn another start for Puebla.
With Club Leon already qualified to the Liga de Ascenso semifinals, Marco Vidal will get some rest this week.
