GYAU SEEING TIME WITH FIRST TEAM

EXTRA TIME
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Thursday, June 23, 2011
American winger Joe Gyau recently received good news as he was invited to join 1899 Hoffenheim's first team to begin the preseason on June 22.

Gyau, 18, was one of three players from Hoffenheim's U-23 team invited to participate until the club's national team players return.

"Joe Gyau has been practicing with the first team since the start of the pre season," Hoffenheim Press Officer Marcel Kamm told YA. "Next week our national team players will start with the pre season as well, so we have to wait and see if he'll still be practicing with the first team until the start of the U23 training."

Gyau has spent a lot of time in the past with US youth teams and most recently he was with the US U-20 team in an unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the 2011 U20 World Cup. Gyau was injured during the tournament and missed time with Hoffenheim in the months that followed.

Gyau is expected to be a part of next year's US Olympic team that will have its qualifying tournament early next year.
