New USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann named his first roster ahead of next Wednesday's friendly against Mexico in Philadelphia.

As expected, the roster did not consist or many new players as Klinsmann is still admittedly getting himself familiar with the player pool.

The roster consists of 22 players with seven coming from MLS and 15 coming from abroad.

The US will be lead by regulars Tim Howard, Landon Donovan, and Carlos Bocanegra.

While most of the players have been regulars with the US national team there were some surprises. Bill Hamid has earned his first national team callup after a strong season with DC United.

Mexican-based players Michael Orozco, Edgar Castillo, and Jose Francisco Torres will also return to the team after long absences.

MLS players Heath Pearce and Kyle Beckerman have been away from the team for more than a year but will also travel to Philadelphia.

Notable absenses are Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore, Oguchi Onyewu, and Eric Lichaj.

In their last game, the USMNT fell to Mexico 4-2 in the final of the Gold Cup in what turned out to be the last game of Bob Bradley's five year tenure as head coach.

Thank goodness. Some latino players in the line up.

Torres, torres, torres and Castillo are welcome sights.

Not too happy with Rico but I guess JK needed some bodies in the middle.

Great to include Freddy, he earned it from his Gold Cup appearances. Welcome back (briefly) to DaMarcus, should give us a threat down the left.

Where is Lich and Demps? I am all for giving Beasley a chance - but what about Benny Corona - he is playing in Mexico and has scored 2 goals in 2 games.

Interesting. I am glad he is going to make Jozy earn a spot, something I think he can do, but what is the deal with no Demps? Does he need to rest?
