US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann was forced to make a second change to the roster for the upcoming friendly against Mexico as Robbie Rogers was called in to replace an injured Maurice Edu.

Maurice Edu suffered a calf injury on Sunday in Rangers' friendly against Chelsea.

Rogers, 24, has earned 14 caps for the USMNT and has scored one goal. This season for the Columbus Crew, Rogers has two goals and three assists.

The change is the second one for Klinsmann ahead of his debut as USMNT head coach. On Friday, Zach Loyd replaced Nurnberg's Timothy Chandler who was injured last week in practice but still played over the weekend.

Well as I see this... there are all sorts of calls for or against bringing in any player, and in this case bringing in all sorts of retreads is actually rather a smart thing to do... some will sink, others might swim under a new coach, but the point here is that he might as well bring in some of these guys for a look or two NOW rather than in a year or two when we will be involved with World Cup Qualifying.
And while there are players I'm far from thrilled to see back in a US camp, Beckermann immediately comes to mind... there is also a return for Jose Francisco Torres and Edgar Castillo, both good left sided players who actually PLAY against most of the MEXICAN side... as far as Orozco, well he had a rather poor OLYMPICS, but really was more of a CB playing at LB... again he faces these players weekly so he likely has some knowledge of how to match up with them.
As far as bringing back Rogers, well OK... he's had a mixed bag, some good matches, several rather anonymous ones... but nothing that comes close to Beckermann's match against El Salvador in qualifying two years ago... really the guy I would like to see get another shot sometime from the Crew is Eddie Gaven, he had a strong match in the friendly with El Salvador a year and a half ago...and again against South Africa last December... and is still under 25, so he shouldn't be forgotten... same goes for Dilly Duka, although I'd expect him to be considered more for the U-23 OLYMPIC team.

really?! rodgers that pathetic name for a player, is one of the worst players to call up to face Mexico...might as well call in bornstein. wow....well guess we owe this game to mexico. I just hope he never in his tenure calls robbie ever again!!! oh btw I know there is better players out there than this lame excuse!!!!!!!

Surely part of the fun of blogging and commenting is exaggerating and hyping things. Klinsmann will have barely a week to organize a team and coaching staff to play Mexico? And already he is being criticized for player selection!!! Maybe all the Bradley haters will recognize that he had a good eye for talent and just maybe the US player pool is not yet as deep as we would like in certain positions (Left Back...Striker). I know its fun to shout and point but come on, lets have a serious dialogue here.
