MICHAEL ADUBATO - Thursday, August 25, 2011
New Yorker Devann Yao made his Belgian debut last night as his Division 2 team fell on the road to Ostende.
Having sat out the first game of the season last week where Boussu came away with a home tie, Yao not only saw his first minutes for the team but saw his first red card as well.
After a positive start for the visitors where Medhi Hadraoui took advantage of a defensive error and lit up the scoreboard in the 18th minute, Ostende tied things up in the 31st minute when Gertjan Martens hit the back of the net.
Having been booked four minutes before the intermission, defender Abdelliah Boukamir was shown his second yellow minutes after the restart thereby reducing the Walloons to ten men.
Yao joined him in the locker room in the 70th minute for a harsh tackle on J. Vandamme.
Boussu-Dour defended well with their two man disadvantage but the Ostenders got behind their team and willed them to the victory with a 94th minute strike by the aptly named Frederick Brillant, who also picked up man of the match honors.
Yao's team will next be in action on September 4th at home, but the American will have to watch that one from the stands.
