NICK LEYDEN - Monday, September 5, 2011
Caleb Patterson-Sewell once again backstopped Atlético to victory, while Tony Taylor made his debut as a second half substitute.
Two goals by Tiago Caiero paced newly promoted Atlético to their second victory in a row and moved them to the top of the standings after three weeks in the Liga de Honra.
Caiero opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a front post header off a corner, but the hosts would respond shortly.
After a Vítor Bastos handball in the box, Lourenço beat Patterson-Sewell from the spot in the 27th minute.
It was the first goal the American has surrendered in his three impressive games since moving to Portugal.
In the 57th minute Coach João de Deus inserted Taylor, who has been with the team for just a couple days after being loaned from Estoril.
Just 14 minutes later Caiero notched his second goal of the game, handing the visitors a lead that Patterson-Sewell and crew would not relinquish.
After taking all three points in the Estádio de São Miguel, Atlético return to the Portuguese mainland in first place. They will hope to maintain their position with a home victory over Trofense in their next game on September 18.
