JOHN KRETLOW - Monday, September 19, 2011
Ryan Miller and Halmstads BK went down again against Kalmar FF while Brian Edwards and Degerfors IF walloped Jönköping Södra IF.

Kalmar FF 1 - 0 Halmstads BK

Ryan Miller and Halmstads BK could not overcome a first half goal from Kalmar FF, which eventually was the game winner.

Miller started and went the distance for Halmstads.

Halmstad began strong and had a great chance to score when Joel Johansson provided an impressive through pass to Marcus Olsson who fired home but was denied by Kalmar keeper Etrit Berisha.

Moments later Halmstads' Christian Järdler shot a rocket from 25 yards out that hit the Kalmar post.

Despite the early Halmstads pressure, Kalmar was able to score first in the 22nd minunte after Mans Söderqvist sent in a long pass from his own end that found Erik Israelsson who scored easily after a defensive breakdown on the part of Halmstads.

Halmstad continued the pressure though in the second half, starting with a Kujtim Bala cross that found Olsson who volleyed impressively, only to be denied Berisha.

Kalmar's Paul Arajuuri received a yellow card while Johansson and Michael Smith were booked for Halmstads.

Halmstads continues in the bottom of the standings, eleven points from safety. Kalmar has 37 points and is five points from the last European spot.

Kalmar takes on Djurgarden next week while Halmstads plays Malmo FF on Wednesday.

Degerfors IF 6 - 1 Jönköping Södra IF

Brian Edwards and Degerfors IF schooled Jönköping Södra IF and inched closer to a promotion playoff spot in the Superettan.

Edwards started and went the distance for Degerfors.

Degerfors scored two first half goals by Peter Samuelsson and Andreas Ljunggren Eriksson.

The heavy scoring though came in the second half, when Jönköping's defense let the game get out of control. Samuelsson scored his second goal of the game, while Niklas Klingberg, Alexander Andersson, and Amadaiya Rennie also found the back of the net.

Jönköping's only goal was scored by Branimir Hrgota deep into stoppage time.

Dennis Östlund, Branimir Hrgota, and Charles Simba were the only bookings of the game for Jönköping.

Degerfors next plays Landskrona BoIS while Jönköping take on Ängelholms FF.

Notes

Sam Petrone did not feature in Mjälby's loss to Helsingborgs IF.
