Before the weekend action kicked off Marcus Hahnemann extended his stay in English soccer as Premier League club Everton picked up the free agent.
While not making the bench in this first game eligible, Hahnemann will be challenging Slovakian international Ján Mucha for a game day roster spot, with both looking to provide cover for United States Men's National Team goalkeeper and Everton number one Tim Howard.
The American goalkeeper has been out of contract since being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season and will welcome the new contract, which runs through January.
"We have only got two (keepers) so I felt we needed someone," David Moyes stated. "He is experienced and will give us that bit of extra cover."
"It is difficult when you only have two senior goalkeepers. It only needs one of them to go down and then you are in trouble.
"It gives me someone who can help in the reserves and if we get an injury to a goalkeeper, he has got good experience of the Premier league and we can use him as back-up."
