JAMIE HILL - Thursday, September 29, 2011
US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann today announced the roster for the upcoming friendlies against Honduras and Ecuador.

It is a strong roster that consists of most of the top US players. For the first time since Klinsmann was hired, Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan are expected to play together again. They will also be joined by regulars Jozy Altidore, Carlos Bocanegra, and Tim Howard.

The US will not be completely at full strength heading into these games. Midfielder Stuart Holden suffered a setback with his knee injury and will miss the next six months of action. Jose Torres also recently had surgery on his foot and will be out for the remainder of 2011. Eric Lichaj will be out at least the next three months with a hip injury and Fabian Johnson's US debut is also delayed as he is out with an injured neck.

Three players will join the US national team for the first time during Klinsmann's reign. Oguchi Onyewu's return to form for his club has paved the way for a return to national team. Nick Rimando has been called in to compete for a place behind Tim Howard. Lastly, Hoffenheim defensive midfielder Danny Williams has received his first ever call to a US team.

Klinsmann has yet to win a game since taking over the US national team. After a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Mexico in his first game, the US team dropped consecutive 1-0 decisions to Costa Rica and Belgium in early September.

The US will take on Honduras in Miami on October 8 and then Ecuador on October 11 in New Jersey.

Eurofan - easy maniac let's not go on a killing spree because of a FRIENDLY.

Not a bad call up, usual suspects but would like to see Mixx Diskerud in there somewhere, also would like to see Feilhaber called up again.

So eurofan, you're upset because he's bringing in some of the best players? You can't say it's crap and not say who is better. Who is he supposed to call in?

Squad looks okay, but wheres goodson? Onyewu and Goodson would be a good pair in center back. Boca on the left and so many choices at right. Defense is defiantly where they need to start from, also give findley the call up.

Eurofan I agree somewhat. Yes this is all the guys Bradley would call up but at least these guys are actually playing now. Most of these guys would ride the bench and Bradley would call them up anyway.

Given that JK is likely going with some modified 4-5-1/ 4-3-3 ... something like this is what I'd like to see.

While I like Agudelo off the bench, and I'd like to see if Beasley's speed can compliment Jozy, I'm not sold on Beasley just yet, so Agudelo should get that spot.

I'm not a fan of so many defensive Mids either (can't figure that one).

Deuce in the center, creative role is something I'd be interested in seeing given the two injuries the MNT have suffered the last 2 weeks. Ouch. Which leaves Donovan/ Shea wearing out the flanks.

--- Howard ---

--- 'Dolo --- Ream --- Boca --- Chandler ---

--- Edu ---

--- Donovan --- --- Shea ---

--- Deuce ---

--- Altidore --- --- Agudelo ---

I have no problem with JK calling up Gooch and Beasley again in order to see if they have something left to offer. I am baffled however by why Ream and Fiscal are getting call backs. They did nothing in the last batch of friendlies to warrant another call so why doesn't JK give somebody else a shot?

I guess I don't share Eurofan's lack of enthusiasm.

I like this roster. You've got veterans in top form (Donovan, Boca, Edu), youngsters with lots of raw talent and potential (Shea, Agudelo, Bunbury), and at least 1 new face (Williams).

Personally I would have liked to see Mixx Diskerud included. Excited for the friendlies. Hopefully this squad can pull out a W.

@eurofan,

I do share some of your sentiment with regards to the selections, but I think with Bradley, selections weren't really the issue. It was more a matter of how the selections were deployed and utilized. My hope is that Klinsmann, knows how to better utilize the guys we have, but I do agree that I'd like to see some guys like Gatt and Diskerud get called into camps. Not necessarily to be handed the keys, but more so that we know they are at least on the radar and being evaluated.

This roster is bs! Same roster as with Bradley...same players, same results! There is no creativity with any of these players! No forwards that play with they're backs against the goal or who can create space for themselves to shoot at goal! I can guarantee lots of centers and inaccurate shots on goal....jk ideas and new style will not fit in with these players! They're potential has been shown at the last wc and gold cup. Again no creativity whatsoever! Very disappointed in his call ups.

We will struggle as we.did with.lame Honduras, lowly rated Ecuador...

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
