JAMIE HILL - Thursday, November 3, 2011
US Soccer has announced the national team squad for the pair of upcoming friendlies in Europe. The US will face France on November 11 and Slovenia on November 15.

Jurgen Klinsmann has assembled a roster with few changes from his previous selections.

Clarence Goodson, Robbie Rogers, and Jermaine Jones, who were not called to the October friendlies, return to the fold. Meanwhile, Landon Donovan and Fabian Johnson have recovered from minor injuries. The only first-time player is rarely-used Hertha Berlin utility player Alfredo Morales.

Several players from the last squad have been dropped, such as Jeff Larentowicz, Nick Rimando, Jonathan Spector, Teal Bunbury, and the New York duo of Tim Ream and Juan Agudelo.

These friendlies could be the first chance that US stars Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan will have to play together under Klinsmann.

The US team will hope to take a step forward after struggling early in the Klinsmann era.

Bocanegra, Carlos (Rangers)

With a lot of our young talent in camp for the U23 team, this
Is still a good squad that was called in to the senior camp.
JK is still trying to figure out who his best players are the only
Thing that is missing other than a strikers that can score is a play making
Center mid that can control and dictate the pace of the game.
Why not invite adu in.

Ugghhh. One can only hope that Beckerman is only getting time because of the big injuries to Holden and Torres and Bedoya's injury/illness issues. That said, I'd be shocked if Michael Bradley doesn't get the start with the team in Europe and him being settled in at Chievo.

And I guess Agudelo's lack of playing time at NY has causght up to him. What a tragedy that a kid with the most natural soccer brain I've seen in a rookie on the US side in years is being wasted on the bench. Maybe he stands a chance if Hans Backe gets blown out and he can get some minutes or get traded next year.

I'd much rather see Donovan in the right midfield slot and Beasley/Shea on the left with Dempsey and Adu (him being left off makes no sense) in front, and Bradley behind them in the holding mid slot. Altidore up top.

I don't know why Spector keeps getting ignored for our vulnerable left back spot. Gooch is getting time and playing well so hope he gets a start. Cherundolo and Bocanegra are solid. I'd like to see Timmy Chandler as a natural right side sub for Cherundolo if he gets taxed of in the midfield as part of a shift. I have no idea why Fiscal is on the roster.

Was kind of hoping that Klinsmann would bring some more first-timers into these friendlies and get a look at some players that Bradley never touched. Perhaps he's feeling pressure to win some games to establish himself first.

I'm still waiting for Charles Kazlauskas to get a call-up. Come on, Klinnie!

Still, why no Freddy after his Gold Cup showing and playing pretty well for Philadelphia? And Landon during MLS, Beasley is no forward, and Beckerman also during playoffs? Shoot, now that KC is done he should call up Bunbury.

Come on, you guys. USA has all the incgedients of a world class side with one excdption - strikers. We cannot score goals except from midfielders, and playing Donovan and dempsey as out and out strikers is a formula for defeat. The make a great attacking flank play but we have nobody as striker. Until US gets at least 2 or 3 decent strikers, we will continue to defeat the teams we should and lose to those who should beat us. Which is not so bad, but we could have kept Bradley for all the good Klinsmann will do unless he personally starts teaching our youth teams rather than the full Mens side. Orozco or Morales or whoever do not really matter. scoring goals does.

Beckerman's form has been improving markedly, so it's logical that Klinsmann is selecting him.

I agree with what most people are saying. I have to say that I'm praying that JK doesn't view Beckerman as a better option that Michael Bradley. Bradley does a huge amount of unheralded work in the midfield, running his socks off, making tackles, and chipping in with the odd goal. I like Beckerman but he's NOT the guy to take USMNT through a WC qualifying cycle.

Disappointed in the strikers he called in. Maybe he brings in a couple from the U-23's after the france game. Rogers nor Orozco Fiscal has any business with the national team. Everyone else I am OK with. Clearly France has a better team right now. I don't really put much stock if we lose against France, but the game that will tell us where we are going is the Slovenia game.
France 2 U.S.1
U.S. 2 Slovenia 0
