JAMIE HILL - Thursday, November 3, 2011
US Soccer has announced the national team squad for the pair of upcoming friendlies in Europe. The US will face France on November 11 and Slovenia on November 15.

Jurgen Klinsmann has assembled a roster with few changes from his previous selections.

Clarence Goodson, Robbie Rogers, and Jermaine Jones, who were not called to the October friendlies, return to the fold. Meanwhile, Landon Donovan and Fabian Johnson have recovered from minor injuries. The only first-time player is rarely-used Hertha Berlin utility player Alfredo Morales.

Several players from the last squad have been dropped, such as Jeff Larentowicz, Nick Rimando, Jonathan Spector, Teal Bunbury, and the New York duo of Tim Ream and Juan Agudelo.

These friendlies could be the first chance that US stars Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan will have to play together under Klinsmann.

The US team will hope to take a step forward after struggling early in the Klinsmann era.

Thought Kljestan would get a look in the European friendlies. And does Klinsmann really think Beckerman can marshall the central midfield against world-class players? I'm starting to think that he sees Beckerman as one of his top guys. It seems like Orozco-Fiscal is not the answer, but I understand the Klinsmann is desperate to find more versatile, athletic players in the central defense, rather than just big dudes.

I think (I hope) that Klinsmann is just looking to see which veteran players he can still use, evaluating most of the younger talent with the U-20/U-23 camp/Olympics.

I am disappointed that Michael Parkhurst was not called up.

After watching Omar Gonzalez lose Luke Rodgers twice in the MLS playoffs first giving up a goal, and second Rodgers missed by inches, I'm glad he didn't get the call.

have you guys seen the roster that France had announced?! man that is a world cup/euro champion squad! talent is what they have! ok back to US beckerman, rogers can not cut it!!! why does he insist on them two?! i know France is going to win, but what I do want to see is a descent performance against them, or at least shots on goal by the US...not a bunker down team (although that will happen against France) I would like the US to create plays..the starting line up i would like to see is:
howard, chandler, bocanegra, oneywu, morales; williams, shea, johnson, jones;donovan and dempsey at top... just saying

I sure hope that JK regulars start to Gel with each other and JK's style. If not then I'll have to agree with Kobe. I'm actually more excited about the potential that the U-23 team has. They might just have a shoot at Gold. 3 years away from WC, more youth talent might surface. We need some players to meet their hype & potential, come on Adu!!! Pick it up man. We need a few more Cherundolos, Dempseys & Donovans.

The standard bearer for me is Marcelo Lippi, Italy 2002. He picked the best 23, He didn’t formulate a style then picked the players, he allowed the strength of the players he had to define their style, he called them Italy’s favored Sons’, they went on to win a World Championship.
IMHO, JK is putting the cart before the horse. I can’t understand his continued love affair with Orozco-Fiscal. No offence, but he couldn’t make it in Philadelphia, yet he jumps to the front of the line as OUR CB of choice, even a head of a fully recovered Gooch.

Why bring in a 21 year old back up (Alfredo) for his first camp now? I'm all for him being in the US plans but wouldn't it be better all around for him to have been brought into the U23 camp? They're having camp right near his club team, he wont really factor with the full team this coming summer but may with the U23's. Plus it allows another spot for players to get in to the full camp and get a look.

Georgio, your are right. Klinsman sucks as an evaluator of talent and as a coach. I wanted Bob gone but what have we replaced him with? We need someone to challenge these guys and get the best out of them. I feel we are in for a big disappointment. Klinsman is not as good as others think he is.
