Wellington Phoenix ended their three game losing streak with a dramatic draw on the road against A-League power Brisbane Roar.

American Alex Smith started and went the distance for Wellington.

Brisbane Roar have been dominate in the A-League in recent years. Last year they won the title and have not lost in 34 matches.

Entering into the game, few gave Wellington much of a chance to obtain a result against Brisbane and things appeared to go according to plan early.

Brisbane dominated possession early and they took the lead in the 11th minute. Thomas Broich took a free kick on the edge of Wellington's box and it found Albanian international Besart Berisha who headed it home for his seventh goal of the young season.

In the 36th minute, Wellington equalized against the run of play. On the play New Zealand international Leo Bertos hit a cross that found Nick Ward at the far post. Warded sent the ball back across the goal and it found Tim Brown who finished from just a few yards out.

Smith and Wellington return to action on Friday when they host Adelaide United at Westpac Stadium.
