Sacha Kljestan was the only American with substantial playing time in Belgium this weekend, going the distance as a starter in a forgettable scoreless draw for the league leaders.
RSC Anderlecht 0 - Oud Heverlee Leuven 0
The Jupiler Pro League leaders were held to a scoreless draw at home, and were reduced a man in the process, by a Leuven eleven that surely felt the thrill victory.
American Sacha Kljestan recorded another complete game in the midfield and the central defense, picking up a yellow in the waning minutes.
The league leaders were the stronger squad throughout much of the match and knocked on the door several times, striking the woodwork twice. The first time came in 27th minute as Serbian Milan Jovanovic sprinted into the box on a kamokaze run down the left side, and smacked the crossbar with a blazing left-footer.
Les Mauves continued their pressure three minutes after the break when Fernando Caneson Matos fed in from the left side for Tom de Sutter. With two Leuven defenders on his trail, the Belgian international somehow stuck a foot in just feet from the baseline to redirect the ball towards goal, but a quick wave of the hand from keeper Thomas Kaminski saved the day for Leuven.
De Sutter threatened again in the 64th minute after shaking off Leuven defender Wim Raymaekers on the right side, and firing the trigger on a right-footer straight at the base of the right post.
The 78th minute saw the dismissal of Anderlecht's Roland Juhasz for tripping up Thomas Azevedo on a drive just outside the box. The Hungarian will not face suspension for Friday's match at FC Malines.
With the result Anderlecht can breathe a sign of relief as they still hold a three point lead over La Gantoise after their equally scoreless draw with Standard Liège.
Tristan Bowen saw four minutes of action as a late substitute in KSV Roeselare's 2-1 win over Royal White Star Woluwe FC.
Devann Yao was not in the fold for Royal Boussu Dour Borinage and AFC Tubize played out to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
