JONES SUSPENDED EIGHT WEEKS
RECAPS
EXTRA TIME
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Thursday, January 5, 2012
US national team midfielder Jermaine Jones has been suspended for eight weeks by the DFB for stomping Borussia Mönchengladbach star Marco Reus in Schalke's German Cup match on December 21.

The ban was announced today and Schalke have dropped plans to appeal and the ban will cover all competitions.

Last week Jones issued an apology to Reus via twitter but it was not enough to convince the DFB against a serious punishment.

Jones will not be able to play club soccer until March 2 when Schalke visit last place Freiburg .

Schalke are currently in the middle of a terrific season as they sit in third place in the Bundesliga and trail first place Bayern Munich by just three points.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
