Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht came away from Beerschot with only one point, while the D2 Americans had mixed fortunes in weekend Belgian action.
Beerschot 0 - 0 Anderlecht
Sacha Kljestan put in a 75 minute shift for Anderlecht but les Mauves were unable to find the back of the net against the stubborn Flemish team, thus dropping their first points of the new year.
The visitor's best chance came just five minutes into the game but Guillaume Gillet fluffed his chance from only yards out. It was again the Belgian just before the half who had a sweet shot that was saved by the Beerschot keeper, Tomislav Pacovski. Just before that however, former Anderlecht striker Sherjill McDonald could have taken his team into the locker room at the interval with the lead. The Dutchman beat Silvio Proto between the Anderlecht pipes but unfortunately for the home fans all they witnessed was a save made by the far post.
Soon after the re-start it was McDonald again who could have found the back of the net after Hernan Losada sent in a cross and as the Dutchman struck, Proto managed to stick a foot out for the save.
If Anderlecht dominated the first half, then the second belonged to Beerschot. Anderlecht did counter and Milan Jovanovic did his best to feed Dieumerci Mobakani in the 18 yard box but the Congoese could not find the back of the net with a few heading attempts.
Les Mauves did get back into it with ten minutes to go. Both Gillet and Roland Juhasz had chances but in the end the game resulted in a scoreless contest.
Next up for the league toppers, who still have a seven point lead over the Gent team that killed St Trond 6-0, is a visit from Genk on Super Bowl Sunday.
Tristan Bowen collected a pair of yellow cards and was sent to the locker room in the 85th minute of Roeselare's 2-2 tie against Lommel United.
Devann Yao and Boussu-Dour fell 3-1 at home to White Star Woluwe.
