It was a tough day for Yanks in England as Tim Howard, Landon Donovan, and Everton were held to a draw against Wigan, while Clint Dempsey and Fulham lost to Manchester City.

Wigan Athletic 1-1 Everton

Tim Howard, Landon Donovan, and Everton were held to a draw by lowly Wigan Athletic in Premier League action.

The American duo started and went the distance.

The Toffees were unlucky to give up a goal in the 76th minute after Wigan's Jean Beausejour sent in a cross that was deflected by Phil Neville. The ball changed its trajectory and wrong-footed Howard who could not recover in time to make the save.

Just seven minutes later though Everton struck back when Victor Anichebe headed in a Leighton Baines cross.

James McArthur and Maynor Figueroa were booked for Wigan.

Everton misses a shot at jumping in to the top half of the Premier League standings.

Wigan continues in last place with 16 points, five points from safety.

The Toffees host Chelsea next week, while Wigan hit the road to take on Bolton.

Manchester City 3-0 Fulham

Clint Dempsey and Fulham went down to Premier League leaders Manchester City this weekend.

The Texan started and played ninety minutes for Fulham

Sergio AgŁero opened the scoring from a penalty kick after Chirs Baird took down City's Adam Johnson in the box in the 10th minute.

Baird's day would get worse as his deflection of a Johnson ball resulted in an owl goal, doubling City's lead in the 30th minute.

In the 72nd minute, City iced the game as AgŁero made an impressive run into the Fulham area and then laid the ball off to Edin Dzeko who shot passed Mark Schwarzer.

Aleksandar Kolarov was booked for City, while Philippe Senderos, Moussa Dembele, and Baird received yellow cards for the Cottagers.

Fulham is in 14th place, seven points above the relegation zone.

With Manchester United's draw against Chelsea, City now has a lead of two points above their cross-town rivals for first place.

City takes on Aston Villa next week, while Fulham hosts Stoke City.

Birmingham City 0-0 Southampton

Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City settled for a draw against fellow promotion hopeful Southampton.

Spector started and went the distance for City.

The game was played in inclement winter weather, which affected the play immensely throughout.

Birmingham dominated the game in the first half, highlighted by a near goal by Guirane N'Daw.

The second half saw the visitors take control of the game. Southampton spent a large amount of time in Birmingham's area, as they mustered five corner kicks.

N'Daw and Steven Caldwell were booked for Birmingham while Daniel Fox received two yellow card for Southampton and was sent off in the 83rd minute.

West Ham United now takes a four point lead over Southampton in the standings, while the Blues keep their 5th place spot.

City takes on Portsmouth on Tuesday, while Southampton takes on Millwall on the same day.

Carlisle United 2-1 Chesterfield

Frank Simek and Carlisle United defeated Chesterfield in a League One clash.

Simek started and went the distance for the Cumbrians.

Ben Parker and Francois Zoko scored two second half goals for Carlisle to win the game after Drew Talbot scored in the first half for Chesterfield.

The Cumbrians find themselves just out of a playoff spot by just goal differential, while Chesterfield is in last place and three points from safety.

Carlisle takes on Stevenage next week, while Chesterfield hosts Charlton Athletic.

Notes

Zak Whitbread and Norwich City beat Bolton, but the center back left the game in the first half due to injury. Stuart Holden missed again as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Brad Guzan and Eric Lichaj were in the gameday roster but did not feature in Aston Villa's loss to Newcastle United.

Conor Doyle and Derby County's game against Robbie Findley and Nottingham Forest was postponed due to bad weather.

Cody Cropper was not in the game day lineup for Ipswich Town as they beat Coventry City in the Championship.

George John and Daniel Potts did not feature in West Ham United's win over Millwall.

Robbie Rogers was on the game day roster but did not feature for Leeds United in their win over Bristol City.
