Brad Friedel and Tottenham Hotspur were held to a draw by Liverpool at Anfield, while Birmingham City jumped up the standings with a win over Portsmouth,

Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Brad Friedel and Tottenham Hotspur tied Liverpool at Anfield in Monday Premier League action.

The American ‘keeper started and went the distance for Spurs.

Liverpool's Luis Suarez made an appearance for the first time since Boxing Day, as the Uruguay forward came on in the second half.

The battle was evenly contested throughout, with the home team having a small edge in possession, shots, and corners.

Andy Carroll had the best shot at a goal in the 73rd minute for Liverpool as he received a pass within ten yards of goal, but his volley went high of Friedel's goal.

The 85th minute saw Spurs get their best chance at goal as Gareth Bale was unable to beat Pepe Reine on a one on one shot.

Luis Suárez and Martin Skrtel were booked for Liverpool while Scott Parker and Bale saw yellow cards for Tottenham.

Spurs missed an opportunity to inch closer to the Manchester teams in the standings. They trail Manchester City by seven points and Manchester United by five points.

Liverpool is in 7th place, three points from a Europa League spot.

Tottenham takes on Newcastle next, while Liverpool plays Manchester United.

Birmingham City 1-0 Portsmouth

Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City beat Portsmouth in a crucial Championship clash.

Spector started and went the distance for City.

Birmingham got on the board late when Steven Caldwell's cross was flicked on by Curtis Davies. The ball fell to Nathan Redmond who knocked home the game winner by ‘keeper Stephen Henderson.

City jumps to third in the Championship standings, while Portsmouth continues in 17th place.

Benjani Mwaruwari was booked for Portsmouth.

Birmingham takes on Barnsley next, while Portsmouth plays Blackpool.
