BRIAN SCIARETTA - Thursday, February 16, 2012
US U23 head coach Caleb Porter today announced a 23 player roster for an upcoming camp to be held in Frisco, Texas.

The roster includes many top players who have excelled in recent camps including Terrence Boyd of Borussia Dortmund, Joe Gyau of Hoffenheim, Zarek Valentin of Montreal, and Juan Agudelo of New York.

There are a few noticeable absences on the team. Speedy winger Josh Gatt was not released by his club, Molde, as the Michigan native continues to make his way back into the team after missing a significant part of preseason with an ankle injury. Also Sebastian Lletget is continuing to rehab from a concussion.

The camp will also mark the debut of Hertha Berlin defender Alfredo Morales and FC Dallas winger Brek Shea who have not spent any time with the US U-23 team due to national team commitments.

The camp will conclude with a friendly against Mexico's U23 team on February 29 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.

Best guess on the starting lineup assuming a 4-3-3 is used. I understand that this is not the best defensive line up since Gyau and Adu are not exactly known for their defensive effort or work rate. However, Gyau has improved on that some in the last few months. Also Gyau and Adu could swap playing positions though that would seem unlikely since Adu is the better passer. While the lineup would be lacking on the defensive side the fire power on offense and over all skill and talent level would be very high. While I think most of us would like to see Mixx play he can really only play as CAM or CM and there really is not a place for him in with his shortcomings on defense right now. The backline is the most questionable at present and I only feel comfortable with two of projections Morales and Valentin. The Centerbacks on the roster are fairly shaky and will more than likely be a sore spot in the match against Mexico.

Forwards:
LF Joseph Gyau CF Terrance Boyd RF Juan Agudelo

Midfielders
LM Brek Shea CDM Amobi Okungo RM Freddy Adu

Defenders:
LB Greg Garza CB Perry Kitchen CB Zarek Valentin RB Alfredo Morales

Man really unfortunately that Gatt was not released by his club, would had loved to see him run past the Mexican defense, oh well I guess hopefully later on we will see him. But overall, I think it is a good roster, CMON USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should have taken a look at Dani (Danijal Brkovic) a true forward (20year old playing top division in Bosnia who is ranked 19th in the world), Freddy Adu is not a true forward and has scored very few goals with much playing time for Philadelphia Union. Christian
