MATHEW WAGNER - Monday, May 14, 2012
Josh Gatt and Molde socked a reeling Stabæk team, while Steve Clark, Kenneth di Vita Jensen and Hønefoss took a shellacking by the hands of Odd Grenland.
Stabæk IF 0 - 5 Molde FK
Molde came out of the gate firing and recorded its first away win of 2012 at Stabæk Saturday.
American winger Joshua Gatt started and played the full 90 minutes on the right side for Molde, while Americans Sean Cunningham and Ricardo Clark played start to finish at center back and central midfield for Stabæk, respectively.
It was a disastrous start for Stabæk, allowing three goals in the first 10 minutes of the match.
Daniel Berg Hestad scored first for Molde in the third minute, when a cleared cross smacked off his chest. The ball then took a bunny hop off the ground, and on a half-volley from 22-yards out, Berg Hestad put it into the right side of the net.
In the sixth minute, Davy Claude Angan lulled the Stabæk defense to sleep by letting Jørgen Hammer run in front of him, but the defender ran past him and the ball. Angan pounced on it and put it between the legs of Stabæk goalkeeper Jan Kjell Larsen and into the net.
In the ninth minute, Gatt added a third goal for Molde, when he got behind the defense on the left side after a pass from Magnus Wolff Eikrem. He held off Stabæk right back Vegar Eggen Hedenstad before squeaking it past Larsen from seven yards out.
Stabæk eventually settled down and created a few chances of its own but to no avail. The best chance came off a corner in the 37th minute, when the ball was headed to Clark. Clark shot towards net, but it was deflected to the head of a teammate. The header went straight to Molde's Espen Bugge Pettersen, keeping Stabæk off the board.
The second half didn't have the same fireworks as the first half, but Molde still managed to add to its advantage.
In the 66th minute, Gatt earned an assist, when he got behind the defense a good through ball from Mattias Moström. The winger sent a centering pass to Angan, and Angan sent the ball into the net from nine yards out.
Molde capped off the match with another goal in the 83rd minute, when Jo Inge Berget got behind Cunningham after a flick from Angan. Berget finished the one-on-one scenario with the goalkeeper by scoring from 14 yards out.
With the loss, Stabæk's losing streak extended to seven games, and the team sits in last place with one point through eight games. Molde, meanwhile, sits in third place.
Both teams return to action Wednesday. Molde hosts Fredrikstad, and Stabæk travels to Vålerenga.
Hønefoss BK 1 - 4 Odd Grenland Skien
Odd Grenland became the first team to score multiple goals against Hønefoss this season when it rocked the hosts.
American Steve Clark started in net for Hønefoss, while American forward Kenneth di Vita Jensen made a 17-minute substitute appearance.
Adem Güven opened the scoring for Odd Grenland in the 33rd minute, when Snorre Krogsgård headed the ball to him. From 11 yards away, the forward put the ball past Clark at the near post.
Güven doubled Grenland's lead in the 40th minute. Simen Brenne set the play up, running along the left wing before sending in a cross. Güven flew in front of a stationary Frode Lafton and placed the header just past Clark's reach.
In the 55th minute, Krogsgård scored himself, this time with a rocket from 22 yards that went through Clark's fingertips and into the net.
Hønefoss attempted to stage a comeback in the 74th minute with a Kevin Bosse Elie Beugre goal that was chipped over a defender from point blank range, but Simen Brenne's goal for Odd Grenland from a cheap giveaway in the back a minute later squashed it.
With the loss, Hønefoss falls to 12th place.
Hønefoss returns to action Wednesday at Rosenborg.
Bærum SK 1 - 2 Tromsdalen UIL
Bærum remained winless in the Adeccoligaen after its loss to Tromsdalen Sunday.
American defender Sebastian Troupe played 86 minutes at center back for Bærum in the losing effort.
Although the home team controlled the game early, Tromsdalen struck first in the 17th minute with a Håvard Lysvoll goal. Tromsdalen doubled its lead eight minutes later, when Reidar Waage headed a cross down to Håkon Kjæve, who scored.
Bærum answered in the 33rd minute, though. Rozhat Shaswari kicked the ball around Tromsdalen defender Eirik Bertheussen while going around the other side. That left him one-on-one with goalkeeper Erik Sørensen, and Shaswari did not lose.
Any chance Bærum had of a comeback in the second half took a hit when Terje Sanne received a red card for a studs-up tackle in which he missed the ball and hit Bertheussen. Bærum was unable to find the equalizer after that decision.
With the loss, Bærum still occupies last place in the Norwegian second division with only two points through four games. The team returns to action Wednesday against Bryne.
American defenders Kyle Helton and Rhett Bernstein started in defense for Mjøndalen in its 2-1 win over Hødd.
