BRIAN SCIARETTA - Tuesday, May 15, 2012
US head coach Jurgen Klinsman today announced the first part of his roster for a series of upcoming friendlies and the beginning of World Cup qualifying.

The Roster includes just 16 players and only Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando being the only two MLS players

The roster included mostly European based players with additional names coming this Sunday. The total number of names during camp could be as high as 29 but only 23 are expected for the friendlies and World Cup qualifiers.

The lone newcomer to the team is Club Tijuana midfielder Joe Corona who recently played with the US U-23 team. He has never played been called up to the US national team before. Hertha Berlin's Alfredo Morales was called up to the US team last November but did not see any minutes.

The biggest omission on the roster is Sacha Kljestan who was a regular starter for Anderlecht who are coming off the Belgian title. Despite his club success, Kljestan has been unable to break into Klinsmann's plans for the team.

Also very noteworthy is that Timothy Chandler is also set to miss yet another round of international and Klinsman revealed that he spoke with Chandler at length and Chandler informed his coach that he wants to take a break from international soccer. Klinsmann said the door is not closed for Chandler but that the team will move forward without him.

The United States will next play Scotland in a friendly on May 26 in Jacksonville.

Chandler hope to play for Germany, i don't blame him , just he has to be honest and said it, and we look for another option ,, if he don't have any feeling for our national team just step out and be clear,, My feeling is that he just take USA as a second chance to play in the word cup and thats not fair to others players that wants to play for our team

Why? Why? Please somebody explain to me why? Why Beckerman? I don't get it. There are at least 6 to 10 defensive mids that are better. Kyle is a good mls player but international level is to much for him. Maybe klinsmann has a soft spot in his heart for dirty hippies..

Lets not overreact, there will be a dozen more, but where is Donovan? Altidore? only 4 defenders and 1 forward means more will be added, but Dempsey is not a forward, nor should he be played there. again, lets not overreact, but why did he make such a halfway initial selection? Only can cause controversy, as I have reacted.

the chandler situation doesn't look good. sounds like he doesn't want to get cap tied to the US in a WC qualifier. that tells me that he's thinking about a switch to Germany. be careful what you wish for timmy.

I say leave Chandler alone NOW. Klinsmann should not call him to USMNT again since he has shown over and over again not willing to commit during FIFA assigned dates that will tight him down with the USA. I think that he is holding back in hope that Germany will call him to their national team roster. Well good luck Chandler and do not hold your breath for Germany. I think that Lichaj should be called to fill Chandler's position. He is currently playing well for Villa.

Wow. Does taking a break from international soccer mean hoping Germany calls me to camp before world cup or what. Niec job using the USA to spring board onto team Germany. Good Riddance
