Diego Chavarri returned to the field as a substitute for Cobresol , though he was unable to prevent yet another defeat in his 30 minute shift.
Cobresol entered the game in last place in the Peruvian first division having won just twice in their opening 14 games.
Both of those wins came in the Estadio 25 de Noviembre, however, so the home crowd had reason to believe that hosting fellow struggler Cienciano would provide as good an opportunity as any to begin a run of positive results.
Unfortunately two goals for Cienciano by Carlos Elías in the 36th and 84th minutes would condemn the Moquegua team to an even larger deficit at the bottom of the standings.
The New York born Chavarri replaced Sergio Ubillús in the 62nd minute after being held out of action since mid-April.
Cobresol will next host Peruvian giants Sporting Cristal, Chavarri's former club, on Sunday.
