BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, July 16, 2012
US Under-20 head coach Tab Ramos today announced his roster for the upcoming 2012 MilK Cup tournament in Northern Ireland.

This US team is far from being at its full strength as John Anthony Brooks, Luis Gil, Jerome Kiesewetter, Villyan Bijev, Will Packwood, and Sean Cunningham are all with their clubs. Vancouver Whitecaps forward Omar Salgado is injured.

But this team will boast some regulars. Goalkeeper Cody Cropper is the team's likely top goalkeeper and is currently on an extended trial with Southampton of the English Premier League. Tigres left back Juan Pablo Ocegueda has been a regular with the team and has turned down invitations from Mexico.

In the back line, central defender Walker Zimmerman returns to the team after a lengthy injury, and the Santos Laguna duo of Benji Joya and Daniel Cuevas have been regular attendees at US U-20 camps so far this cycle under Tab Ramos

The US team has regularly competed in the Milk Cup either with the U-20 team or the U-18 team. Last year with the U-18 team, the US finished in third place. In 2010, the US U-20 team won the tournament after posting an undefeated record.

In the tournament, the US will face Denmark on July 21 followed by Turkey on July 23. There will then be a placement game on July 26.

Cool story Juan.

As stated this is not the strongest team. Not only are they missing said players in the article, but other players like Fehr, Dunn, Guido, Oliver, Nick Gaitan, Villarreal, McBean and Marc Pelosi amongst others are missing as well. I think when all said this U-20 cycle has a lot of talented players in it.

Should be interesting to see how this cycle play's out. Players like Bijev, Brooks , Keisewetter, Dunn, Guido, Fehr, and Pelosi may not be available for selection for the CONCACAF qualifying tournament because clubs don't have to release players for the tournament. Good luck to the boys in Northern Ireland!!!!!!

When this team is at full strength I feel like it will be pretty filthy.
Gil, Bijev, Koroma, Keiswetter, Salgado will combine to make a lethal attack unit.

Not an impressive roster...probably will be enough to do ok in the long run in whatever tourny we played but its a lackluster playerpool crop...our arch rival Mexico in the other hand their generation of U-20 is based off the U-17 who won the championship, they have players who are playing A teams minutes such as Fierro, Cubo Torres, Giovanni Casillas and Galvan (3 of which play in Chivas)...meanwhile our league continues 'growing' and to 'grow' they bring foreign abroad players...bottomline we'll continue to be second fiddle...
