CHRISTOPHER MCCOLLUM - Sunday, August 12, 2012
Jurgen Klinsmann announced the long awaited roster for the U.S. National Team today that will travel to Mexico City for Wednesday's game.

Though August 15 is an international date on FIFA's calendar, it comes at an inopportune time for European based players who have either just begun, or are about to begin their seasons. Because of this, Klinsmann made some unexpected decisions for his roster.

The roster contains plenty of players from MLS and Mexico, as well as a smattering of the usual choices from Europe. However, not able to choose all of his first choice talent he has brought in some more inexperienced players to fill the gaps.

Graham Zusi has been shining for Sporting Kansas City, and his two caps in January showed promise to be built upon. His teammate Matt Besler has received his first call up to a National Team roster, after performing very well in MLS this season. Last year, he was named Sporting Kansas City's Defender of the Year.

In addition to Besler, Steven Beitashour has received his first National Team call up, joining his teammate Chris Wondolowski in representing the San Jose Earthquakes in Mexico City.

The bulk of the roster is made up from players on this side of the Atlantic, as nine players from MLS and six from Mexico received the call.

Howard, Tim (Everton)
Johnson, Sean (Chicago Fire)

Upon further review, I think this might be a good team to field. I am saying this because at 7500 ft the polluted atmosphere of Mexico City greatly favors playing people that are a) young b) in form and c) used to playing at altitude. Hence the MLS and Mexican contingent. I don't think that players like Jozy (who looks fatigued even at sea level) or the older European based players would have much fun playing at Azteca tonight. I don't think the current team will fare much worse than the A-team would and if they pull it off Jurgen looks very, very good.

Would be funny if this is the game we beat them in Azteca. It could be like the Olympic Final where they control possession the entire game but we sneak 1 goal to eek it out. But everything points to the Mexicans trampling us 4-0. Plus, I need Mexico to win by 2 goals for my hanicap bet. C'mon Mexico. Make me rich! But, I always lose my bets so good luck USMNT. For me, it's a win win, unless it is a tie.

Beckerman???? Again????? I think Shea has potential and I hope he tears it up down the wing as he did in a few matches for the Nats. Woldonalski is a wonderkin but not at this level. we are screwed at Azteca again.

Klinsman appears to be confused and frustrated. Where will the national team go?

NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY KLINMANNS WAS FIRED. HE IS A JERK. WHAT A JOKE OF A SQUAD. EDDIE JOHNSON, GYAU, PONTIUS, ETC..., WHERE THE HELL ARE THESE GUYS. DOES BREK HAVE A PICTURE OF KILNSMANN IN A COMPREMIZING POSITION? I AM A JAMAICAN WH WILL START ROUTING FOR ANYONE EXCEPT THE USA. KLINMANNS NEEDS TO GO.

Tell me why Brek Shea is on this squad? What has he done lately besides being featured in more commercials than games. If you have to take an MLS'er take Pontius. Com'n americans put your brains together!

how the hell does Beckerman keep making the team? does his German sounding name help in his selection because it certainly cannot be his performances for the USA! Having said that, Shea is always useless for the Nats as well.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
