Jozy Altidore struck an impressive hat trick in AZ's destruction of Roda JC while Charles Kazlauskas played the full 90 in yet another victory for first place Helmond Sport a division below.
AZ Alkmaar 4-0 Roda JC Kerkrade
Goals in the 13th, 40th and 65th minutes gave Jozy Altidore his first Dutch hat trick and led AZ to an easy victory over Roda JC.
The New Jersey native notched the game's first goal with a left-footed blast from inside the box, finishing off a crisp sequence in which his back heel to Viktor Elm allowed the Swede to play a return ball to Altidore in the area.
Altidore also played a major role in the second tally of the night when his low, driven ball across the face of goal was turned in by Erik Falkenburg in the 29th minute.
The rout was on in the 40th minute when the former New York Red Bull expertly chested down a Maarten Martens pass and used his right foot to poke the ball into the net before it ever hit the ground.
Roda's Polish goalie Filip Kurto was beaten for the fourth time in the 65th minute when Altidore finished off a flowing AZ move in which Martens and Adam Maher combined to set up the 22 year old for a far post finish.
The hat trick brings Altidore's total to seven league goals in five games, three more than his nearest challenger.
AZ also moved up to seventh with the win, and will visit NAC Breda on 9/23.
FC Eindhoven 3-4 Helmond Sport
With Charles Kazlauskas manning his right back spot from the opening whistle Helmond Sport took three points from an exciting, back and forth matchup on the road with FC Eindhoven.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Serhat Koc, but Emrullah Güvenc leveled for Helmond Sport in the 24th minute.
It took only two minutes for Maikel Verkoelen to regain the lead for Eindhoven, but Güvenc continued his hot streak by scoring in both the 41st and 45th minutes to give the visitors a halftime lead.
For the Belgian forward the first half hat trick marked his 7th, 8th and 9th goals of the young season.
Soufiane Dadda once again tied the game in the 56th minute, only for Helmond Sport's Zarko Grabovac to score the winner in the 64th.
Kaz and company have now won all five of their games this season, scoring a league high 15 goals in the process.
Helmond Sport's next game will be at home against middle of the pack Fortuna on 9/21.
