EXTRA TIME
JOHN KRETLOW - Tuesday, September 25, 2012
Brad Guzan and Eric Lichaj look to lead Aston Villa against Manchester City in League Cup play, while Frank Simek and Carlisle United welcome Clint Dempsey and Tottenham to Brunton Park.

Manchester City - Aston Villa

Brad Guzan, Eric Lichaj, and Aston Villa travel to take on Manchester City in League Cup play on Tuesday.

Villa went down to Southampton in their Premier League fixture on Saturday and look to reverse their luck in the midweek.

City also did not get the result they wanted as they drew with Arsenal in league play this weekend. It was only the third time a team notched points at the Etihad Stadium in 31 games.

Villa is carrying a three game losing streak to City, though the teams have not faced each other this season.

Marc Albrighton, Richard Dunne, and Gary Gardner missed this weekend and could also be out with injuries on Tuesday for Villa.

Carlisle United - Tottenham Hotspur

Frank Simek and Carlisle United welcome Brad Friedel, Clint Dempsey, and Tottenham Hotspur to Brunton Park in League Cup action on Wednesday.

Simek and the Cumbrians are coming off a win over Coventry City and have not lost in four games. They won their League Cup game against Ipswich Town in August and hope to keep that momentum going against Tottenham.

Spurs got their second league win in a row this last weekend and have started to find their stride under head coach Andre Villas-Boas. They beat Queens Park Rangers by a scoreline of 2-1 and will look to duplicate that performance on Wednesday.

Friedel is likely to get a rest as Hug Lloris looks for the start for Spurs, while Villas-Boas good give Dempsey another look as the American is still getting settled with his new team.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul are injured and could miss for Spurs

Notes

Tim Howard and Everton take on Leeds United in Tuesday League Cup play.

Seb Hines hopes to feature in Middlesbrough's game against Preston North End.
