BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, October 8, 2012
US national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann today announced his roster for the crucial upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Antigua and Guatemala.

The roster contains several regular players but also a few surprise inclusions.

The defense consists of most of the same players that played against Jamaica last month. The US team will welcome back Edgar Castillo who was injured for the most recent games but who has been playing well for Club Tinjuana. Yesterday he went a full 90 in a 1-0 win over Toluca that vaulted Tijuana into first place in Liga MX.

In the midfield, Michael Bradley will make his return to the US team after missing almost a month with a leg injury. He returned for AS Roma yesterday and scored a goal.

Similarly, Sacha Kljestan is on the team for the first time since February. He is currently with Anderlecht who are in the Champions League after winning the Belgian league last year.

Among the forwards, Landon Donovan will return after missing the last few qualifiers with an injury. San Jose's Alan Gordon was the most surprising inclusion since his only callup to the US team was in August as an injury replacement in a friendly against Mexico. He did not make the matchday roster for that game.

The biggest omission for this game is Jozy Altidore who is the current Eredivisie scoring leader in Holland. Also, missing is Terrence Boyd and Jose Torres who have been regulars with this team most of the year.

The US will face Antigua this Friday on the road before finishing out this round of qualifying on Tuesday, October 16 against Guatemala in Kansas City.

Judging by this roster I would expect both of these upcoming games to be physical and ugly, but as long as the USMNT wins I don't care how they play.
