BRENDAN WIMBERLY - Monday, October 8, 2012
Time is running out for Brian Edwards and Degerfors to escape the relegation zone after they fell to Gregg Berhalter's Hammarby on Monday.

Hammarby IF 4 - 2 Degerfors IF

Baggio Husidic and Brian Edwards both played the entire match as Husidic's Hammarby teammates fired four goals past Edwards in Degerfors' net.

Husidic, although getting a shot on goal, was primarily focused on his defensive duties throughout the course of the game.

Christopher Brandeborn opened the scoring for Degerfors in the 16th minute with a point blank finish. The lead was short lived however, as Mattias Adelstam scored goals in the 19th and 24th minutes on assists from Kennedy Bakircioglu and Erik Sundin respectively.

Bakircioglu grabbed his fourth game in five games since returning to Hammarby. The former Racing Santander and Ajax midfielder scorched a shot past Edwards from 25 yards out.

Peter Samuelsson narrowed the margin in the 73th minute, finishing from close range off of a pass from Amadaiya Rennie. Despite Degerefors' resilience, Adelstam completed a hat trick in the 86th minute to put the game back out of reach.

With the loss, Degerfors are now four points away from escaping the relegation zone with only three games left.

Degerfors face Angelholm next on October 21st, while Hammarby square off against Ljungskile on the same date.

Varberg BoIS 2 - 2 Halmstad BK

Pierre Tillman netted an 88th minute goal for Varberg to secure a tie against Ryan Miller and Halmstad.

Although a regular contributor to Halmstad's offense from his right back spot, Miller expended his energy on the defensive side of the field on Monday, rarely finding himself too far up the field.

In the 30th minute Patrik Larsson ripped a shot from the corner of the penalty area to give Varberg the lead with his 12th goal of the season.

Halmstad came out flying after halftime, and Mikael Boman found the equalizer. The striker slotted home a goal right in front of net after the ball pinged around the face of net following a free kick.

HBK jumped ahead in the 70th minute when Christoffer Fagercrantz went on a rampant run from midfield through the Varberg defense and sent a shot from 30 yards out past Varberg keeper Peter Dahlberg.

Two minutes before the whistle Tillman rescued the hosts with a fantastic strike from 25 yards out. The tie dropped Halmstad down to third in the Superettan, two points shy of Brommapojkarna in second place.

HBK are next in action October 21st against Varnamo while Varberg face Umea that same day.
